Happy New Year Record Breakers!
Road
On the Road, Mark Walker claimed both the V40 10K & 15K records. The previous 10K record of 33:14 had been set back in the year 2000! Mark set a new record of 33:01 at Trafford in March 2022, and also claimed a new 15K record of 57:01 at Merebrook from November 2022.
Mark continued this impressive form into 2023, and claimed both the Half-Marathon (1:13.04) and Marathon (2:38.35) records in the V45 category in Manchester and Valencia respectively; records that had previously been held by James Noakes for almost 12 years!
Winter 2023 and the Wilmslow Festive 10K was an ideal setting for John Carr to break a V50 10K record that had stood since 1997!! John took 11 seconds off the previous record of 34:40, with a time of 34:29. Will it be another 26 years before this one is beaten?!
Indoor (Field)
Ben Hunsley had a meritorious visit to Connah’s Quay in November 2023. Ben set the U11 records for Shot Put, High Jump and Long Jump at the Winter Indoor Combined Event. Congratulations Ben!
Indoor (Track)
I must admit to being delighted (and slightly biased!) with the achievements of this next athlete and their performance indoors to conclude 2023!
Jake Rowley claimed the U15 1000m Indoor record with a time of 2:45.95 at the Northern Athletics Indoor Open, Sheffield set in November 2022. Jake then returned to Sheffield a year later and went one better in his first indoor year of U17’s, with an improved time of 2:38.10 for the 1000m.
Continuing this Indoor success, Jake competed in the 600m in December 2023 at both the Northern Athletics Open in Sheffield, and Manchester Indoor Open at Sportcity. Jake set a new U17 Club record indoors for the 600m of 1:25.35, and then improved this a week later with a time of 1:24.94 respectively. The previous record of 1:25.90 had stood for almost 8 years.
Finally, Jake also ran in the 800m indoors at the Run, Jump, Throw event at Sheffield in December 2023. While Jake narrowly missed out on the Club record (this time!) by 0.26 seconds, he did end the year with a new PB for the 800m of 1:58.78! A fantastic achievement Jake, as we look forward to an even more successful 2024!
Many congratulations to all these athletes and their achievements! Please click the link below for details of all Club Records claimed in November and December 2023.
November / December 2023 Club Record Breakers
Please keep those records coming! (Including any records previously broken and not yet claimed). As we head into the start of 2024, there are still great opportunities to claim new Club records on the road, and during the Indoor season.
