Cheshire League T&F Round 4

Posted on 17/09/2023

On Sunday 3rd September, the final round of the Cheshire League Track and Field competition hosted by Crewe, took place in Macclesfield. The whole afternoon was filled with great performances in all age groups and it was lovely to see everyone having fun in the sunshine as the summer holidays drew to a close.

As a club, we finished 2nd overall which was a fantastic finale to the season. We had over 70 athletes competing, with many U11s doing so for the first time, plus 4 new U15Bs, which was brilliant. Plenty of personal bests were accomplished on the track and the field in all age groups and the whole day had a celebratory atmosphere. Well done to all athletes who took part and a huge thank you to the volunteers from Macclesfield who stepped up to officiate and help out on the day, to fill much needed roles. You all went above and beyond.

The top throw performance of the whole day was awarded to Robbie Nwankwo (U13B) for his 27.57m Javelin throw. Congratulations! Georgia Evans should also be proud of her long jump distance of 3.10m in the U11 age group.

The senior men and ladies who competed all stepped up to the mark but a special mention should also be given to Caroline Gisby, who managed to storm through to victory in the 3000m, whilst doing a brilliant job of team managing the U13W. What an inspiration!

In the longer distance races, Jared and Thomas (U15B) both had superb runs in the 800m, finishing 1st and 2nd in very quick times (2:14 and 2:21 respectively). The distance run of 1500m for the U17M was also hotly contested by 3 Macclesfield Harriers, all vying for position, with the win going to Jake Rowley in 4:37. Emma Johnson (U17W) continued to astound by finishing in first place for her 800m in 2:27. Likewise, Martha Wood (U11G) ran in under 2mins to finish first in her 600m race. As a newcomer to the club, it was also good to see Lara Dorsett (U13W) finish in 3rd place in the 1200m in 4:41, leading in the other harriers, who all turned in pleasing performances.

The sprinters were also out in force, with excellent runs coming from Gus (U11B), Ben (U11B), Tomas (U13B) Samuel (U13B) and Chris Melvin (U15B) in their 100m, Tara (U17W) and Eliza (U17W) in their 200m, Abbie Egerton (U13W) with a new PB in her 200m at 29.5s.

Four turned out for the U15G team, the best this season. Newcomer Florence Beard was warmly welcomed and achieved impressive results in the 200m (29.9sec) and long jump (3.9m). Also competing in the 200m and long jump was Lizzie Pendrill. Performing to her usual high standards, Lizzie recorded 28.5sec and 4.12m respectively. The 1500m saw Brooke Sayce and Eva Mion competing.  After a fast start and leading the race for some time, Brooke recorded a time of 06’10.8″, and Eva 5’38.3″. It was pleasing that in this last round the u15 girls were also able to field a relay team.  They performed very well considering this was the first time they had worked together in this event.

At the close of play, the U17W had an excellent run in the 4 x100m relay. They fiercely chased down Crewe, the eventual winners, in a thrilling race on the final straight.

The final accomplishment of the day was in getting all of the juniors assembled in the same place and a good photo of the whole team which was no mean feat!

Huge thanks to Barbara and Simon, all team managers, volunteers and officials for co-ordinating a great T&F season.
