Heaton Park XC

Posted on 15/03/2023

On Saturday 11th March, 15 harriers made their way to Heaton Park for the re-scheduled finale of the Manchester League. Although depleted on numbers, due to many of the juniors being selected for the inter-counties race on the same day, the enthusiastic bunch braved the cold and muddy conditions.

Starting with the U11s, George Allen was the first harrier home in a 14:18. A special mention is also given to a very courageous newcomer, Annabelle.  Having only joined the club very recently, she decided to get stuck straight into competitions. Sadly, her shoe got stuck firmly into the mud and she was unable to finish. We are sure she will be back, stronger than ever next year!

A trio of Christopher, Alex and Eric continued to ensure the U13 boys were well represented and worked strongly as a team, finishing in quick succession of each other.  Eva, Martha and Matthew flew the flag for the U15’s with all three racing hard and finishing high up their field. The senior men and women rounded up the day with smiles all round. Well done to Sue, Sally Ann, Ann-Marie and Barbara in the senior ladies race and Mark, Steve and Gareth in the senior mens.

Points have now all been totted up and counted for the season ahead of the AGM and award evening on 24th March.

All that remains to be said is a huge thank you to everyone who has braved the elements this season to represent the club.  This includes the parents and team managers who have also been an important part of the support squad, standing on the sidelines, cheering everyone on! It has been a great season and fantastic to see the great individual and team performances achieved since September.
