Congratulations to Samira
Australian born Samira Cox who moved to the UK earlier in the year and joined Macclesfield Harriers has had a very successful T&F season in the throwing events. Samira competes for Macclesfield in league events and mum Vicki has become a regular volunteer field judge for us. One of 21 year old Samira’s first events was the Cheshire Champs back in May, where she won silver in the discus, bronze in the javelin and threw PBs in the hammer, discus and shot. Samira, who has vision and hearing impairment, also competes in para-athlete competitions and we were thrilled for her when she won the women’s ambulant discus gold medal (and a training grant) at the English Championships in Bedford last month with a throw of 26.06m. Samira also took silver in the javelin with 20.69m. Coaches at Macclesfield have been impressed by Samira’s dedication and commitment and we will all miss her sunny smile when she moves to Plymouth with her family soon. Samira’s family said they were pleasantly surprised at Samira’s success and how well she has performed this season. We wish Samira, Vicki and all the family good luck with their move to Plymouth and we look forward to seeing more great performances by Samira in the future.
