Introducing Dennis Kentrop, our new Men’s Fell Captain.
If you’ve ever ventured out with the Macclesfield Harriers fell group, you will have spotted Dennis– he’s the one with the infectious smile. We caught up with Dennis to find out, what makes a man from Amsterdam, where it is notoriously as flat as a pancake take up fell running.
Q1: When did you start running?
Dennis: I started road running in 2010. At that time I ran before work building up to my first race which was the Alderley Bypass when it opened.
Q2: How long have you been a Macclesfield Harrier?
Dennis: I have been a Macc Harrier since January 2017. I joined specifically for the fell running. We live in a beautiful area and we have fells right on our doorstep. This is totally different from the countryside I was used to in Holland and I wanted a new challenge.
Q3: What has been your favourite race and why?
Dennis: I enjoy most of our local races they are great, before, during and most of all afterwards. One of my favourite races is the Boars Head it has a nice route around Lyme Park, the distance is just right with a nice downhill sprint to the finish. Races are a brilliant opportunity to catch up with fellow Harriers as well, it is great to see everybody out and hats off to all those involved from the organisers, marshals to the competitors.
Q4: What does running mean to you?
Dennis: For me running means maintaining fitness, freedom, enjoying the space, fresh air and countryside.
Q5: Do you have a top tip for other runners?
Dennis: My top tip to other runners is join a club! I enjoy the social side but it also motivates to run more often, whatever the weather and it is a great way to discover new running routes and places.
