Last year, when we had nice sunny weather, a couple of runners failed to find the start. This year, everyone found the start…. but about 2 miles in, quite a few might have wished they hadn’t. When we checked the course on Sunday, heatstroke was a potential problem: but on the day we had continuous heavy rain from early morning all day.
Grim would I think be a fair word. (The hall floor suffered, the grassy car park suffered more. I don’t think I’ll be getting my deposit back.)
But that didn’t stop a record turnout and some fast times ! Everyone made it back in more or less one piece, a bit bedraggled but mostly smiling (glad it was all over…:) and the cakes and tea all went, (thanks to those who contributed) which saves me a job eating them.
I’d really like to thank the marshals, we didn’t have many volunteers this year, but they all did a fine job in very difficult conditions. Also our results team Rebecca Rob and Martin, our entries person Emma, sweeper Mark, and our tea team, Jo and Faye. Special thanks to Faye, Rebecca and Emma who both ran and then helped out as well. We need marshal support from Macc H to put the race on, so many thanks to everyone who did volunteer on the night.
Results are below, please let me know of any errors and I will sort out. They will appear on the FRA website soon.
Thanks to you all for coming and supporting us. We’ve made several hundred pounds which will be split between Staffs Wildlife Trust to improve Gun Hill, the Roaches and other areas in the Moorlands, and Dougie Mac Hospice for all their brilliant care work for so many people.
Cheers Jo and Julian, Macc H & AC
