The course has been re-designed since last year; the hills which used to be near the start and finish of the race are now avoided in favour of a relatively flat loop around Over Peover. The organisers promised the new course would lead to multiple PBs being set, and the weather played its part as the early morning drizzle lifted just before the race began leading to it being mild but dry – perfect racing conditions.
A total of 21 Macclesfield Harriers took part. Running around the course it was clear to see why this race is a favourite among club members! We started by snaking our way down Colshaw Hall’s grand drive before emerging on to picturesque traffic-free, tree-lined roads. At around 3 kilometers, Jodrell Bank towers over the course. The last three kilometre of the course are almost entirely downhill, and the finish area can be seen and heard from the start of the descent, ensuring competitors find a new burst of energy for the closing stages.
Most Macclesfield Harriers were pleased with their times today, and there some great age category results. Lindsay Purdie was the 2nd fastest V50 while both our youngest oldest competitors won their age categories! Harry Newton was fastest V80 male despite competing as a V85 and Jared Dickinson was the fastest U20 male despite competing as an U15! Congratulations to all.
Our fastest three ladies were Kristy Gill (41:20), Deanne Tomkins (41:42), and Lindsay Purdie (45:18) while our three fastest men were Ewan Edmondson (35:45), Sam Pendrill (36:14), and Jared Dickinson (36:54)

Macclesfield Harriers Road Running Championship 2024
The next races in the Club Championships are Round the Runway 5 Miles (July 2nd), Wilmslow Summer 10k (July 14th), and Warrington parkrun (July 20th). We hope to see you there!
Warrington parkrun forms part of the Cheshire Grand Prix and, as it is free to enter, it’d be great to have as many Macclesfield Harriers as possible attend. It might be worth sharing lifts and making a team day out of it!
