Introducing Macclesfield Harrier, Melanie Power. Mel is a C group run leader. When she is not running or working her two day jobs (yes two), Mel can be found at track massaging other Macclesfield Harriers.
Mel is currently training for her first marathon – the monster race that is Lochness Marathon, which takes place on 6th October 2019. We thought this would be an ideal time to pull her aside for a Meet the Members grilling
Q1: When did you start running?
Mel: I started running in 2012 after watching the Olympics. Feeling inspired I bought a pair of ASICS running shoes and proclaimed I was going to start running.
Q2: How long have you been a Macclesfield Harrier?
Mel: After completing the c25k on an app on my phone I then did the great Manchester run, 2013 it was following this that I joined the club as wanted to improve my times. I dragged my husband along on a Friday d group run at this time there was only 4 of us.
Q3: What has been your favourite race and why?
Mel: My favourite race has to be Macc Half, it was at this race I finally beat the 2hrs that I had chased. This I believe was down to fab pacers James and Keith, as well as lots of Macclesfield harriers marshalling and cheering me round. I cried at the end – those of you who know me know this can happen.
Q4: What does running mean to you?
Mel: Running initially for me got me through my dads cancer diagnosis and treatment, time out some head space. The most special thing is I have met some truely lovely crazy folk, friends whom share my enjoyment of running, if only i’d started sooner!
Q5: Do you have a top tip for other runners?
Mel: My top tip would be even though I do massage therapy is look after yourself have massages, stretch, rest and listen to your body but more importantly enjoy it.
Q6: Anything else you would like to add?
Mel: I’m looking forward to my challenge of Lochness Marathon and have enjoyed the training and company from other Harriers. Proud to be a Macc Harrier.
