Meet the Member – Charlie Bird

Posted on 10th September 2021

Introducing Macclesfield Harrier athlete and coach, Charlie Bird.

Charlie has been coaching at the club since 2016. Charlie understands her athletes — their needs and their potential. She is fantastic at building up her athlete’s confidence and motivating them to push beyond what they think they are capable of doing.

We asked Charlie to share some of her experiences with us;

Q1: When did you start Track and Field?

CB: . I started coaching in July 2016 and the following summer did a couple of events as I was taking athletes to competitions.

Q2: How long have you been a Macclesfield Harrier?

CB: I joined Macclesfield Harriers in 2014 as a road runner with E group.

Q3: What has been your favourite event and why?

CB: The Hammer throw is my favourite by a mile. I started throwing to get points in league matches and I now train at least twice a week. I’ve improved by over 9 metres this season so far.

Q4: What’s your favourite athletic memory?

CB: I couldn’t pick one memory, but I love coaching. I’ve met some incredible young athletes and feel very lucky to have the opportunity to help them along their way.

Q5: What does athletics mean to you?

CB: It’s a huge part of my life. I love giving something back to the local community and it’s also introduced me to some life long friends so I’d say getting involved with the club volunteering is one of the best decisions I ever made.

Q6: Do you have a top tip for other athletes?

CB: Always give other athletic disciplines a try because you never know where you have some natural talent and you might just find something you love!
