March / April 2025 Club Record-Breakers

Posted on 4 May at 9:30 pm

TRACK – MEN

It was a quiet period on the track for Club records, with David Smith as the sole representative.

David claimed two records in March 2025, with the first being on the track in the V35 60m indoor event in Manchester. David recorded a time of 7.72 seconds, improving on the previous record of 7.88 seconds that had stood for over ten years.

FIELD – MEN

Spring was well and truly (and literally!) in the air for David Smith, as he set another Club record in March – this time in the V35 Long Jump event. David leapt a further 35cm than the previous record that had been in place for almost ten years, with a jump of 5.86m.

Also in the field events, Ollie Mills-Kidals recorded an excellent tally of 4,148 points in the Heptathlon to claim the U17 Club record at the England Athletics Combined Age-Group Championships in Sheffield.

Congratulations to both David and Ollie for their achievements.

FIELD – WOMEN

Lisa Hunsley shattered the existing, and her own V45 Discus record in April at the Cheshire Track & Field Grand Prix at Ellesmere Port.  Lisa improved her previous best throw by more than 3 metres with a throw of 21.03m. Very well done Lisa!

ROAD

Finally, on the road, there were two records claimed on 23rd March 2025 at separate V50 events.

Firstly, Melanie Power claimed a previously unclaimed record for the V50 20-Mile event. Melanie posted a time of 2:59.51 at the Ashby 20 in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. I expect it was a lovely feeling to be just under three hours for this event!

Sue Stockdale also improved on her own V50 Half-Marathon personal best and Club record time of 1:38.38. Sue set an improved time of 1:38.15 at the Wilmslow Running Festival and now holds records in the 5K, 15K and Half-Marathon on the Road. Congratulations Melanie and Sue!

Please keep those records coming! (Including any records previously broken and not yet claimed – a list of these is available within Club Records).

Finally, very best wishes to all athletes taking part in the Cheshire Championships this weekend.

Hopefully, we’ll see a few records shattered, along with some podium finishes.
