Twelve Macclesfield Harriers raced around the picturesque village of Christleton and the surrounding countryside on a warm, spring evening. Renowned as one of the quickest 5K courses in the region, the race attracts top talent from across Cheshire, Merseyside, and North Wales, with many chasing personal bests.
Billed as a race for fast runners, the night belonged to Walkers. Matthew Walker led the Harriers home in a blisteringly-quick 15:51, and he was followed by his father, Mark Walker, in 16:30. Despite a late surge and dip finish to cross the line ahead of Jordan Cooper, Rob Whitby’s chip time of 16:48 wasn’t quite enough to beat Jordan’s time of 16:46. With four Harriers finishing under 17 minutes, the men’s team is likely to have scored heavily in the CCA Road Grand Prix.
On the women’s side, Sue Stockdale was the sole Macclesfield Harrier competing in Christleton. Her impressive time of 21:36 earned her 2nd place in the FV50 category.
There were also strong performances by Graeme Eddie, who broke his 5k PB to finish in exactly 19 minutes, and Keith Mulholland, who recorded a time of 20:52 for his fastest 5k since 2018.
Congratulations to all who took part and represented the club with strong performances. Full results are available here.
