Meet the Member – Kim Eastham

Posted on 11/04/2020

Introducing the lady who brings the glamour to Macclesfield Harriers, Kim Eastham. She’s the only person we know, who can finish a tough mountain race  and still look immaculate!

As a running group leader Kim is always positive and supportive. She is one of the reasons D group is so successful and why people continue to turn up every week.
In addition to road running, Kim can also be found on the trails and fells tackling more challenging terrain. Always carrying a smile and some cheese sandwiches.

Let’s hear what Kim had to say;

Q1: When did you start running?
KE: About 6 years ago. I was a very late starter ! A PT at the gym I was at offered to take a group of non runners out. I felt like I’d conquered the world when I completed my first 10k!

Q2: How long have you been a Macclesfield Harrier?
KE: I joined the harriers nearly 5 years ago. After my 1st race (Manchester 10k), I was hooked, but realised I needed some help and direction! Harry N would see me running past his house and gave me little nuggets of advice ( I was usually wearing too many layers!). Harry came along with me to my 1st Wednesday D group and also to my 1st Saturday trail run. Acts of kindness like these, are what makes our club really special.

Q3: What has been your favourite race and why?
KE: That’s tough! Perhaps the 1st time I ran the Snowdon Trail Marathon in 2016, accompanied again by some special people who dragged me round & made it a very memorable weekend ( it was quite a small event a few years ago which made it even more special. Fantastic marshals of course and a cheese sandwich to keep us trotting up the Pyg Track!) or Lakeland 4 Passes which is an amazing route, stunning scenery and was my 1st event in the Lakes. I’ve done it twice and can’t wait to do it again! I can’t choose – sorry! However, writing this during the C19 lockdown, what I miss most is just local runs with groups of friends, enjoying the company and the beautiful place we live, that’s pretty perfect!

Q4: What does running mean to you?
KE: See last sentence of Q3! It gives me a sense of freedom and perspective and enables me to re- set mentally. It also means friendship, happy times and adventures.

Q5: Do you have a top tip for other runners?
KE: Don’t worry about speed and times, just join in and enjoy the run. Anything else is a bonus! Oh and don’t wear too many layers!
