Sportshall – Information for athletes, parents & guardians

Sportshall is an indoor athletics event for younger age groups (U11, U13 & U15).

It takes place over the autumn / winter season (Oct – Feb) comprising of league events where athletes earn points for their club competing against other clubs in the same match. There is also a regional final, where your child may be selected to represent Cheshire county. All events are organised, supervised and judged by volunteer licensed officials. Parents are asked to help out occasionally with timing / positions in running races.

There is a mix of track and field events, which are designed to be simple and fun for young athletes. Further details are given on the next page. The events are a great introduction to competitive athletics in a warm, safe environment, enabling children to practice the skills needed for the summer season. (Don’t worry, there is no starter’s gun at Sportshall !) The schedule of events for each match this season are as follows:

U11s can do a maximum of 3 events plus a relay event. U13s can do 4 events plus a relay. Most children do at least 3 events, so that we get maximum points for the match and get a better position in the league.

Yes. Parents and guardians come along too and sit in the sports hall to watch and cheer on their children. Camping chairs are a good idea, as there aren’t usually many seats at leisure centres, apart from the regional finals.
