YDL Round 2

Posted on 12/06/2023

Saturday 3rd June saw the 2nd round of the YDL competition, where we had several teams of youngsters head over to Leigh to compete, picking up vital points for the club and putting in some impressive individual performances. Here is a quick round up:

U13 Boys

Samuel, Tomas, Eric, Robert and Alex represented the U13 Boy’s team at Leigh on Saturday. On the track, we had some great performances. In the 150m sprint, Samuel secured 3rd place with a PB (21.2s)  and Eric, who was celebrating his birthday, finished 6th in his race! Tomas and Alex both finished strongly in their respective 800m races, both with PBs (Tomas 2.35.9 and Alex 2.49.9) both narrowly missing out on the win, to finish in second place.

In the field events, Alex and Eric competed in the long jump – their best jumps being 3m24 and 2m86. In the high jump, both Tomas and Samuel cleared 1m25. In the shot, Samuel threw a great 8.35m whilst Robbie also managed to throw an impressive 7.33m. Robbie also managed a great throw in the javellin with a distance of 16m44.

The U13 boys all supported each other all afternoon and even had time for some fun in between. Well done boys, see you at the next event!

U13 Girls

Lara Adu-Gyamfi made the most of the good weather to take part in 3 events as our only girl in this age group. She broke her 70m hurdles PB by over 2 seconds, recording an excellent 15.1 seconds and 5th place. In addition, Lara gained more valuable points with her 3.39m long jump and 12.3sec 75m sprint. Thank you and well done!

U15 Boys

Over with the U15 boys, we had a great turnout with 8 of the team competing. In the 100m, we had 4 of the boys having a great run in the sun with Jared Dickinson and Will Hammond running very close to their PBs (both 14.1) and Toby Broadrick (13.5) and Josh Jones (14.4) achieving great new PBs! The 200m was a very tough race with some strong competition but Oliver Stewart (29.2) and Josh (29.9) battled hard and both managed new PBs, huge well done.

Stan Slater had 2 great runs in the 300m and 800m and he knocked 7 seconds of his 800m PB from 2022. George O’Donnell had an amazing run in the 1500m, finishing in 2nd position and knocking 3.5 seconds off his new PB which was only set 3 weeks ago in Macclesfield (4.37.2). Tristan Lamprecht also having a brilliant day and finishing 1st in the 80m hurdles and the Javelin, getting close to both his PBs!

Further in the field events, Jared (4.68m) and Tristan (4.58m) both achieved new PBs in the Long jump and came 2nd and 1st in their respective A & B strings. Finally, the boys snatched 3rd place in a very competitive relay with a great time of 55.8 (super close to this years PB of 54.5). A fantastic end to a fantastic day!

U15 Girls

For the U15G, Lizzie Pendrill and Eva Mion made the most of the good conditions to record personal best times.   First up was Lizzie who not only gained a PB when finishing 2nd in the 75m hurdles, but broke the long standing club record with her time of 11.7sec.  Lizzie also secured good positions in the 200m with 29.0secs and the Long Jump with 4m18cm.   Eva raced later in the day and broke her 1500m PB by an amazing 6 secs with an excellent time of 5m20.6 for 2nd place. What a brilliant day for both girls!

Whilst it is great to see how well these youngsters are doing, we really do need more juniors competing. To avoid relegation, it is essential we field full teams for Round 3 and 4 of this competition.  Round 3 is being hosted by Macclesfield on Saturday 8th July, so please make sure to keep this date clear and book your place on the team with your team manager.
