A large contingent of Macclesfield Harriers participated in the Wilmslow Running Festival, which takes place on the first Sunday after the Spring Equinox. The event includes both a 10k and a half marathon, with both races starting at the same time and following the same route for the first few miles before the 10k runners peel off.
The half marathon also served as the first race of this year’s CCA Road Race Grand Prix. Rob Whitby is the current men’s champion, and the club is looking to build on last year’s impressive 2nd and 4th placed finishes for the men’s and women’s teams, respectively.
Notable performances from Macclesfield Harriers across both races include:
- Matthew Walker finishing second in the 10k and as the first U21
- Cian Taylor finishing as the second U21 in the 10k
- Catherine Wilson finishing in second placed in the V55 category for the 10k
- Keith Mulholland running sub 1h40 for the first time since 2019
- Claire Sleath recording a huge PB of 01:41:45 following a back injury
- Harry Newton finishing in first place in the V85 category in the half marathon.
Grace O’Neill was our fastest lady in the 10k, finishing in 49:49. She was followed by Catherine Wilson in 51:06, and Valerie Kulkarni in 62:39.
Our fastest man in the 10k was Matthew Walker in a lightning-quick time of 33:50. He was followed by Cian Taylor in 35:21 and Will Nettle in 40:23.
Kristy Gill was our fastest lady in the Half Marathon, crossing the line in 01:31:44. She was followed by Katrina Barnes in 01:37:34 and Sue Stockdale in 01:38:15.
Despite starting late and battling through the crowds, Rob Whitby produced a scintillating time of 01:15:31 in the Half Marathon. This was exactly a minute quicker than James Perry who produced a huge PB to finish in 01:16:31. Our 3rd finisher was Joseph Pickard in 01:17:05.
Congratulations to all for your performances at the Wilmslow Running Festival! Full results are available here.
