ROAD
Congratulations to both John Carr and Matthew Lynas this month for setting new 5K road records in the V50 and V55 categories respectively. John improved his time by a further 10 seconds to 16:09 in the Mid-Cheshire 5K, while Matthew set a previously unclaimed V55 record with a time of 18:58 at Dunham Massey Park.
TRACK – MEN
The Cheshire Championships held at Macclesfield proved to be the perfect setting for several of our senior athletes this year.
David Smith set new V35 records in both the 100m and 200m going sub-12 seconds and sub-24 seconds respectively. Both records had stood since September 2014!
Ray O’Keefe set new V55 records in both the 200m and 1500m, eclipsing records previously held by Mark Wheelton since 2014 and 2017 respectively. Sorry Mark!
Continuing the success at Macclesfield, James Perry also set a previously unclaimed 5K record in the V40 category, with a time of 17:36.81 that will take some beating.
Away from Macclesfield, Ian Ratcliffe had a fabulous week and a sprinting clean sweep! Ian claimed the 100m, 200m and 300m records in the V60 category, all in the same week!
Finally, in men’s track events, Matthew Lynas set new V55 records in both the Track Mile and the 10,000m in Horspath. Matthew shattered the previous Mile record held since 2014, by almost a full minute, with a time of 5:27.07! Not satisfied with this, Matthew also set the 10,000m record on the same day! Remarkable.
TRACK – WOMEN
There was further success at the Cheshire Championships this year, with Lisa Hunsley claiming the V45 record in the 100m, improving her own record time set in July last year.
Hilary West once again set multiple records this month, claiming the 100m, 200m and the 400m records in the V65 category in the same weekend!
Away from the Champs, Lisa and Hilary also claimed new records in the V45 Track Mile and the V65 300m respectively. Amazing achievements!
FIELD
May 2024 also saw new records claimed in the Field events. Jasyn Savage improved the V45 Javelin record by almost 3m with a throw of 33.84m at the Cheshire Championships. The previous record had been held since 2014.
Finally, Nicky Tasker also set a new V55 Hammer record in Deeside with a throw of 16.93m, eclipsing the previous record held since 2019 by over 4m!
