Masters Road Relays 2025

Posted on 11 May at 3:34 pm

BMAF Road Relays 2025
Ladies do it again!

The 2025 Masters’ road relays were once again held at the Mallory Park racetrack which provides a unique setting for this annual UK club championship.  The course is anything but flat but the clean traffic free tarmac and  hot competition stills offers the opportunity for quick times.  The Anglo-Celtic 100km championship and Masters 10 mile championship running concurrently also brought additional interest for the spectators.

Once again the weather conditions for the race were good, a sunny but not too warm day with a slight fresh wind to cool one down while running.  The Harriers presence at this race continues to grow with 12 runners competing and also a couple of additional ladies willing to run if required.  Once again it was the W45+ ladies who were the star performers with Kristy Readman not just leading us off excellently but also running the 3rd fastest lap of the day in 19 mins 43 secs for the 3 mile course and handing over in 2nd place to Joanne Hackett who ran 22:36 to maintain our podium position.  Every reliable Sally Ann Hales was once again on final leg and brought us home in 3rd place, running 22:39.

The men had a good performance in the very strong M45+ category finishing in 7th place (Mark Walker 17:06, James Noakes 18:24, Gareth Briggs 19:04, Matt Lynas 18:08).  We were sadly just 1 man short of the 6 required for a M35 team (Ewan Edmondson 17:43, Peter Youds 20:50, Graeme Eddie 20:00, Mike Kemp 21:56, Paul Roberts 17:31).  Everyone ran well and enjoyed their runs, these races being certainly a new challenge for some and a pretty unique experience for all.  With more M45s and M55s available for the cross-country relays in the Autumn (October 25th) we’re hopefully of fielding even more teams there, so boys & girls get the date in your diary now.

Other masters opportunities across Track & Field, Road and Trail are on https://bmaf.org.uk/fixtures/ if you are over 35 and want to enter some age group based competitions.
