March 2026 Road Racing Round-Up (High Legh 10k and Wilmslow Running Festival)

Posted on Today at 3:53 pm

With three races on the Road Running Club Championship calendar taking place, March was a busy month for road racing!

High Legh 10k

The High Legh 10k at the start of the month was the start of our defence of our Cheshire Road Grand Prix team crowns. A total of eight Harriers attended this scenic but undulating race which goes through the north Cheshire countryside.

Huge congratulations go to Rob Whitby for winning the race in an impressive chip time of 33:32! Billy Hicks also put in a fantastic performance, finishing fifth overall with a chip time of 34:52. Dave Chambers (39:02) and Pete Taylor, making his 10k debut in an impressive time of 40:56, were the third and fourth Macclesfield Harriers across the line, ensuring that we started our defence of the men’s team Cheshire Road Grand Prix strongly!

Jill Abbott was the only Macclesfield Harrier lady, completing the course in a time of 55:09.

Name Chip time

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the High Legh 10k! Full results are available here.

Secret Half Marathon

Despite it being a Cheshire Road Grand Prix race, no club members turned up to the Secret Half Marathon. Perhaps this was unsurprising that it was only a week before one of the most popular events on the calendar, the Wilmslow Running Festival.

Wilmslow Running Festival

As always, there was a great contingent of Macclesfield Harriers at the Wilmslow Running Festival. 28 of our members competed in the half marathon, while 9 raced the 10k, and Zac Harding represented the club in the fun run! Full results of all three events are available here. Well done to all who ran!

10k

Kate Hamilton-Ryan was the first Harrier across the line in a time of 42:11, bagging the VW55 prize at the same time! Our second and third ladies also placed highly in their age categories, Helen Saunders (44:53) was first VW35 while Sue Stockdale (46.09) was second VW50. Together, Kate, Helen, and Sue claimed first placed ladies team in the 10k. Fantastic racing – well done!

Our fastest man was Olly Cook, finishing in a time of 43:00, and he was followed by Andrew Stewart in 46:28 and Gareth Stockdale in 47:22.

Our fastest lady in the half marathon was Juliet McLeod in a time of 01:46:51. She was followed just five seconds later by Rachel Welch (1:46:56), and then Katrina Barnes in a time of 1:48:20.

There were some noteworthy performances. William Stewart  was the 3rd-placed MU21, Ann Alcock Harris was the 3rd-place WV75, and Harry Newton was the fastest MV85. A huge congratulations must also go to Graeme Eddie who knocked four minutes off his half marathon PB!
