Macclesfield Running Festival 2024

Posted on 03/11/2024

Last Sunday saw runners from across the land descend on our town for the Macclesfield Running Festival. The event comprises three races: a 5k, a 10k, and a half marathon – all of which involve challenging hills and the opportunity to finish in a blaze of glory at the Macclesfield Athletics Track! For the second year in a row, the sun was shining on race day, providing perfect racing conditions and the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful countryside around Macclesfield in between gruelling hill climbs!

A total of 47 Macclesfield Harriers took part and many more lined the streets to act as event marshals and to support. It was wonderful to see so many club members out and the efforts of the marshals and supporters were greatly appreciated by all! While the three routes were tough, the constant cheers of encouragement from the many friendly faces lining the course helped many a Macclesfield Harrier find an extra gear!

We had a very successful day as club members finished on the podium in all three races!  Despite competing as an U17, Eva Mion finished as 1st lady in the 5k. Ian Fisher won the 10k while Faye Sharpley was the 2nd lady. Rob Whitby was the 3rd placed man in the half marathon.  Huge congratulations to all four of you!

There were also several excellent age-grade category results. These are listed below, well done to you all!

5k: Eva Mion – 1st FU35, Ciaran Wright – 1st MV35, Lisa Hunsley – 1st FV45

10k: Faye Sharpley – 1st FV40, Ian Fisher – 1st MV40, Caroline Gisby – 1st FV45, Meagan Mirza – 2nd FV55

Half Marathon: Billy Hicks – 3rd MU35, Fiona Blagg – 1st FV35, Rob Whitby – 1st MV35, Dave Chambers – 1st MV45, Steve Lomas – 1st MV55, John Vel – 3rd MV60

Congratulations to everyone for your performances. Full results can be found here.
