Northwest Indoor Sportshall League – Rounds 1 and 2
Round 1 – Crewe, Sunday 6th November 2022
A team of eight, excited U11 girls competed in the first northwest indoor sportshall league to be held since covid 19. It was a long day but everyone enjoyed the experience, cheering along their team mates from start to finish. There were great performances all round in a range of events.
Standout performances included:
Emma placing 1st in round B of the Vertical jump and Kjerstin placing 2nd in round A.
Kjerstin and Emma both placing 1st, in rounds A and B respectively, in Standing long jump.
Darcie placing 3rd in round B of the 4 lap race and Martha placing 4th in the A race.
Unfortunately, points and placings were only recorded for the top two scorers per club in each event. Despite this, there were also many notable performances from our other team members (Lauren, Tilly, Georgia and Sammy) in the other rounds in each event as well.
The girls placed 4th overall, which was a great result, particularly considering most of them have never competed in this type of event, or as Macclesfield Harriers before.
Round 2 – Crewe, Sunday 11th December 2022
A small, but enthusiastic team of four, U11 girls flew the flag for Macclesfield Harriers at the second round of the northwest sportshall league.
Some events were changed from round 1, Javelin was replaced with Chest Push, and an extra event, Balance beam, was added for the first time. The girls coped with the changes admirably and they all performed really well individually and also as a strong team. Our team of 4 even outscored their previous efforts from round 1 with 119.5 points vs 94.5 in November, placing 5th this time.
Every team member gained at least one top 3 finish and several pb’s were achieved on the day. Standout performances included:
Emma placed 1st in round A of the Vertical jump and Sammy 2nd in round B.
Emma was 2nd in round A of the Standing long jump and Georgia 2nd in round B, with a pb.
Emma came 2nd in round B of the Chest Push. Georgia also scored the same great distance but in a stronger round A field.
Lauren placed 3rd in round A of the speed bounce with a pb and 4th in the Balance beam (just a second off 3rd place).
Georgia and Sammy ran the 2 lap race within a tenth of a second of each other, Georgia finishing 2nd in round B, with a pb and Sammy in the strong A round.
We’re looking forward to more fun and competition at round 3 in Liverpool on 8th January!
Thanks to Caroline for these reports and photos and to the coaching team for helping the U11 girls get off to a flying start. Please contact Junior Team Managers if you are able to compete on January 8th!
