Fell & Trail

The club’s Fell & Trail Section includes social runners (those who simply enjoy running on the hills and trails) as well as those who enjoy racing competitively and/or who have tackled the UK’s Big 3 Mountain Challenges, the Joss Naylor Challenge, Bob Graham & other Mountain Endurance Challenges or other ultra-distance events on the hills and trails in the UK and abroad.

The club Fell & Trail Championships depends on points from a runner’s best races over the year. Details of the 2025 Club Fell & Trail Running Championship can be found below.

When do we meet, where do we meet, how fast do we go ...

FELL
Fell Group meet on Wednesday nights at various venues 7pm for 1.5-2hrs. All levels usually catered for with Green (a gentle 5-6 miles), Blue (6-7 miles) and Red (8-9 miles) groups on the busiest nights, plus varying degrees of climb.  We put on and encourage participation in both local and distant fell races and ultras throughout the year. New joiners always welcome and full details of the runs each week are published in the ‘Closed’ Fell Facebook group (search for Macclesfield Harriers on Facebook).

To arrange a trial run in Green or Blue or if you are wondering if you have the confidence/ability to step up to the challenge please contact the Fell Manager

Please wear off-road shoes, carry emergency contact details, and in winter bring a decent head torch and appropriate clothing.

TRAIL
Trail Group meet at 9 am on Saturday mornings, typically 2 or 3 times a month at various venues. The aim is for a sociable run benefiting from all the wonderful countryside we have on our doorstep and runs are almost all on trails and footpaths. Runs can be between 6 and 9 miles and typically last between 80 and 120 minutes. Runs are designed to be inclusive with faster runners looping regularly. New joiners always welcome and full details of the runs are published in advance in the ‘Closed’ Trail Facebook group (search for Macclesfield Harriers on Facebook).
