Over a very hot and sunny weekend, four Macclesfield Harriers put in some great performances at the Northern Athletics Championships at Sportscity, Manchester. In the U20 age group Hayden Blunn added another 3 championship bronze medals to his trophy cabinet – first with a PB in the 110m Hurdles of 15.74secs on Saturday, then excellent performances in the shot put (11.98m) and high jump (1.85m, joint 3rd) to round off his successful weekend on Sunday. Rebecca Dilworth (U20) recorded a great PB on Saturday in the 400m with 60.26secs in blustery conditions, finished 5th overall, so will be looking out for a sub 60secs next time. Rebecca returned on Sunday to the 800m heats, and had a strong run, although not quite matching her newly set PB and club U20 800m record of 2m15.62sec set at the BMC meeting on Tuesday at Trafford. Laurence Manley had a great run in the Senior Men’s 800m, setting a PB of 1m56.86secs in the heat to qualify for the final where he finished a creditable 6th place. Not to be outdone by the youngsters, Ashley Pritchard acquitted himself well with a 35.02m throw in the Senior Men’s discus for 8th place.
As well as the athletes, we were also represented by officials Craig Birch, Alison Hartopp, Barbara Murray, Michael Thorley and Shaun Wilde who volunteered their time once again. Without these volunteers, none of our track and field events could be staged.
For anyone who wants to compete in track and field, we have a Cheshire League fixture at Trafford on 17th June (U11-Senior) and a Northern League fixture (upper U17-Senior) on 18th June at Wavertree, Liverpool. Contact your team manager – details here.
