Cheshire T&F League First Round
The Track and Field season kicked off with the family friendly Cheshire League at Ellesmere Port on Sunday 23rd April. Although the weather could have been better, a great time was had by all. This league covers all age groups from U11s to seniors, with around 50 Macclesfield Harriers turning out to compete for their teams. It was particularly pleasing to see so many young athletes representing the club for the first time.
U11s score separately from the older groups and the Macclesfield U11 combined boys and girls team performed brilliantly to gain 2nd place behind the host club West Cheshire. The U11 boys almost had a clean sweep, finishing 1st in all four 75m races (Gus, Ben, Oscar and George) and in both long jumps (Luke and Ben) as well as a magnificent win in the 4 x 100m relay (Joel, Luke, Oscar and Ben) The U11 girls (Georgia, Annabelle, Tilly and Emma) also put in some great performances across all events, including a superb 2nd place in the relay against strong opposition.
The U13 boys (Samuel, Tomas, Alex and Robert) had a great day with Tomas and Samuel taking 1st in the A and B high jump respectively, and Robert and Samuel matching that with 1st in the A and B javelin. Alex gained a PB in the 200m and had a fine run in the 800m. The U13 girls had a strong team with several second places in the 100m from Abbie, Lara and Iona, with Connie gaining 3rd in the D race. Kjerstin and Lauren did well in the javelin, as did Eve and Lara in the long jump.
The U15 boys continued their cross country success, leading the way in the 1500m with Jared taking the win from Jake and George in the race for 1st in the A, B and C event. Oliver, Joshua and newcomer Dylan put in good performances in the 200m, with Will doing well in the long jump. The U15 boys also secured 1st place in the relay (Dylan, Josh, Will and Jared). Brooke had a fine run in the U15 girls 800m, her first track race for Macclesfield Harriers. Unfortunately no other U15 girls competed in this event, but support from Toni and Eva was much appreciated.
The next event for the U13s and U15s is the Youth Development League at Macclesfield on Sunday 7th May – please contact your team manager asap to confirm your attendance – your team needs you!
For the U17W, Tara, Millie and Charlotte had good runs in the 100m, finishing with 2nd in the A race and 1st in B and C races respectively. Emma only had a short time to recover after her PB performance in the 1500m of 5:09.2 mins, before joining the others in the 4x100m for a brilliant winning performance. Earlier in the day, Tara finished a strong second in the triple jump – her first attempt at this event, with Millie second in the javelin. It is good to see MHAC field a team in this age group this year. Keep up the good work ladies! With exam and revision season upon us, three U17M athletes were able to get to Ellesmere to compete, putting in some brilliant performances at the start of theseason. Jake secured 1st place in the 800m with a solid run of 2:05.8 mins. In the javelin, Charlie and Joseph threw impressive distances of 35.79m and 32.55m respectively, both a considerable amount further than all the other competitors. Well done!
The Macclesfield senior men were also very strong on the field, with Ashley and Hayden taking 1st in the A and B javelin respectively, and reversing the roles with Hayden taking 1st A in the high jump and Ashley 1st B. Laurence Manley secured the 800m win, with Jasyn gaining valuable points in the 100m sprint. The senior ladies came away with a win in the 3000m team event (Caroline, Sally Ann and Barbara), and Hilary put in a strong performance in the 100m. More senior men and ladies are very welcome and much needed for the Northern League match at Macclesfield on Saturday 20th May – please contact your team manager asap!
Overall in the match the Men (U13-Senior) finished 2nd behind Warrington, with the Women (U13-Sen) 3rd behind Warrington and West Cheshire. A big thank you to all athletes, officials, team managers and parents who contributed to such a great result in the first round.
