THE JUNIOR ENGLISH FELL RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIP 2022

The Wood family Junior English Fell Championships 2022 Adventures. Runners Michael, Thomas & Martha with support team (transport, food & warm ups) Mum, Dad and Teg the dog.

The 2022 Championship was competed over five different races across Cumbria and North Yorkshire between March and July.  Championship points are scored from the best four results from the five races. Thomas Wood was competing in the U13 boys age category , the races for this age group were no longer than 3km with ascents of 500ft.

The first race at Black Combe. Thomas finished 2nd scoring 48 championship points. The following three races at Todd Cragg, Guisborough Woods and Great Wherenside Thomas finished first in each race scoring 50 championship points. This sealed the U13 Championship 2022 overall title with a score of 198, with still one race to go. The last race at a very wet Helm Hill meant the pressure was off and Thomas finished 3rd.

Michael Wood had to step up to the U17 Boys age category this year, with race distances no longer than 7km and ascents up to 1700ft. Michael finished 9th overall which was is a great achievement.

Martha competed in U11 Girls category and completed three races.

It was a very enjoyable championship for the whole family which included great days out at fantastic locations.

We all attended the junior awards presentation in Sedbergh on Saturday 10th September, the day included a fun sports day, orienteering with Victoria Wilkinson, and an inspirational talk by guest speaker Dr Adam Booth.
