July Road Running Club Championship Results

Posted on 2 hours ago

Whether it was tackling the hills of the Buxton Carnival 4M, dialling up the speed at Huxley 5M, or taking on the familiar surroundings of South Park, Macclesfield Harriers had a great month of racing in July!

Buxton Carnival 4M

6 Macclesfield Harriers headed to Buxton for this race which is part of the annual Buxton Festival. This is already a challenging race due to steep hills which athletes must climb; however, the extreme heat made it even harder this year!

The first Harrier to complete the race was Finlay Lam-Gall in a time of 25:22. He was followed by Andrew Power in 26:58, and Carl Barnard in 28:01. Sue Stockdale was the only lady from our club who took part, and she completed the race in 29:47.

Name Chip time
Finlay Lam-Gall 25:22
Andrew Power 26:58
Carl Barnard 28:01
Keith Mulholland 28:34
Sue Stockdale 29:47
Gareth Stockdale 30:08

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Buxton Carnival 4! Full results will be available on the Buxton A.C. website soon; however, a PDF of the results is available on request.

Huxley 5M

This race debuted this year and attracted a strong field. It’s not hard to see why this race was so popular: it’s very flat, there are wonderful views of Beeston Castle from much of the course, and the second half of the course is slightly downhill ensuring those who still have something in their legs can push for a fast finish. It was also very well organised. It’s likely that many of our club members will be back next year!

This race was also part of the Cheshire Road Grand Prix, meaning our members were competing as part of a team as well as for personal glory!

Eight Harriers travelled to the scenic village of Huxley for this race. Our fastest runner was Rob Whitby who finished in a time of 27:26. This was a full minute ahead of Ewan Edmondson in 28:26. Our Cheshire Road Grand Prix men’s team was completed by Dave Chambers (30:33) and Carl Barnard (33:54).

Sue Stockdale was our only lady, finishing in a time of 35:51. If we are to retain last year’s women’s Cheshire Road Grand Prix crown, we will need a good turnout for the last few races of the Cheshire Road Grand Prix season!

Name Chip time
Rob Whitby 27:26
Ewan Edmondson 28:26
Dave Chambers 30:33
Carl Barnard 33:54
Owain Morris 35:00
Sue Stockdale 35:51
Ray O’Keefe 36:34
Gareth Stockdale 36:53

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Huxley 5M! Full results are available here.

Macclesfield parkrun #347

While this isn’t technically a road race, we couldn’t miss our local parkrun from our Club Championship! As ever, South Park was full of Macclesfield Harriers on this warm Saturday morning!

Will Stewart recorded the second fastest time ever (16:13) at Macclesfield parkrun to finish first, and he was over two minutes ahead of second-placed Ewan Edmondson (18:22). Another Harrier, Chris Bentley, took third place in 18:51.

Our fastest lady was Sue Stockdale who recorded a new PB of 22:02. Sue was followed by Angela Markley in 22:07 and Katrina Barnes in 23:02.

Six members of Macclesfield Harriers achieved a new course PB on Saturday. Congratulations to Will Stewart, Ewan Edmondson, Andy Burns, Rob Gorton, Sue Stockdale, and David Smith.

Because of the way that the parkrun website allows runners to self-select membership of clubs, results were filtered by members of Macclesfield Harriers & A.C. and then cross-checked against a list of current club members. If your result has not been included and you think it should have been included, please let me know as soon as possible.

After the end of parkrun.

Standings, recent marathons, and upcoming races

The standings for the 2026 Road Running Championship will be updated after every race and can be accessed at the link below. Ten men and two women have now completed six qualifying races. Rob Whitby is eight points clear of second-placed Dave Chambers at the top of the men’s standings; however, Sue Stockdale has now reduced Kristy Thorp lead to just one point in the ladies’ championship!

2026 Road Running Club Championship Standings

Marathon results also count for points in this year’s Road Running Club Championship, so please submit your results to the Road Running Manager, Owain Morris, if you would like your score to be added.

The club is taking part in the 2026 Cheshire Road Grand Prix. All club members are automatically enrolled and your best five races from the eight-race series count toward your final position. We are currently awaiting confirmation of how the cancellation of the Guilden Sutton 10k will affect scoring for the Cheshire Road Grand Prix.

2026 Cheshire Road Grand Prix Standings

Our next three fixtures are detailed below

  • Pie and Peas 5M – Wednesday, August 5th
  • Wilmslow parkrun* – Saturday, August 15th
  • Buxworth 5M – Thursday, August 27th

*Please note that this is a fixture change. Roadworks between the Cat and Fiddle and Buxton mean that travel to Buxton for the originally scheduled Pavilion Gardens parkrun would have been difficult.

We look forward to racing with you soon!
