Flying Fox 10, 2025

Posted on 10 Nov at 9:52 pm

Six Macclesfield Harriers travelled to Standon in Staffordshire to take part in the scenic but brutal Flying Fox 10 Miles. There was barely a flat section on this undulating course, and there was even a 2-mile hill climb with a non-negotiable puddle to contend with halfway through! On the plus side, all the hills meant that there wonderful views of the autumnal Staffordshire countryside and plenty of fast downhill sections!

This race was also a designated Inter-Counties Race. Rob Whitby and Mark Walker were both selected to don Cheshire’s black and yellow against North Wales and Staffordshire’s finest. Congratulations to you both for your selection to represent the county!

Rob Whitby was the first Macclesfield Harrier across the finish line, completing the course in a time of 58:30. He was followed by Mark Walker in 59:09 and Steve Lomas in 72:27. Our fastest lady was Sue Stockdale who crossed the finish line in a time of 78:16.

Congratulations to everyone for your performances. Full results can be found here.

Name Chip Time
Rob Whitby 58:30
Mark Walker 59:09
Steve Lomas 72:27
Owain Morris 76:42
Sue Stockdale 77:47
Gareth Stockdale 78:16

The standings for the 2025 Road Running Championship will be updated after every race and can be accessed at the link below. Owain Morris became the 14th man to complete six qualifying races while seven different women have completed six qualifying races.

Although the top three in both the men’s and women’s open championship has already been decided, there is still plenty to decide as the season draws to a close. With two races of the season left, who will make a final dash up the leaderboard?

2025 Road Running Championship Standings

Marathon results also count for points in this year’s Road Running Club Championships, so please submit your results to the Road Running Manager, Owain Morris, if you would like your score to be added. Thank you to everyone who has submitted their results so far!

The 2025 fixture list is available here, and entries are now open for all remaining races.

The final two races of the year are listed below. It’d be great to have a huge Harriers’ turnout at both!

  • Wilmslow Festive 10k, November 23rd
  • Stockport 10 Miles, December 14th

For those of you looking to book on to races for the start of the 2026 season, the following races have been confirmed as part of next year’s Macclesfield Harriers’ Road Running Club Championship:

  • Four Villages Half Marathon (Helsby), January 18th
  • Alsager 5, February 1st
  • Wilmslow Running Festival (Half Marathon and 10k), March 22nd
  • Any race which is part of the 2026 Cheshire Road Grand Prix

The club has also received two places for the London Marathon on April 26th. A ballot for these two places will take place on December 9th. Details on eligibility and how to enter the club ballot are available here.

We look forward to racing with you soon!
