Posted on 31 Oct at 12:39 pm

Club member Ian Humphreys is kindly supporting our Club fundraising initiative in support of Rob Hasler and Brian West.
Please read Ian’s story and support if you can, via the link below, to his fundraising page. All sponsorship funds raised will be split equally between Rob and Brian to help support them as they adapt their lives following their MND diagnosis.

Ian’s Story

I’ll be running my 100th marathon in Athens on Sunday 9th November 2025. I set myself the target of getting to 100 marathons before my 60th birthday and I’ll be 60, just 5 days later. It’s taken me 14 ½ years since my first marathon in Belfast in May 2011!
After nearly 2,620 miles of marathon running, I thought I’d use my 100th to raise money for Brian and Rob who have both recently been diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND). Both were Macc Harriers club runners who are now having to come to terms with the loss of their mobility and independence. MND causes muscle weakness that gets worse over a few months or years. There’s currently no cure.

The money raised will be used to support them and their families to pay for modifications to their homes as they adjust to their symptoms and on-going care. Fundraising offers hope for their families during this incredibly difficult time.
Every penny raised will go towards Brian’s and Rob’s ongoing care so please sponsor me with as much or as little as you can – many thanks
Ian Humphreys
