Saturday saw the Road Running Club Championships back in Buxton for another short race. The high temperatures and altitude didn’t stop a small group of harriers taking on this rarely run distance over an undulating course around the centre of Buxton.
The race was started in style by the Carnival Queen and was cheered on by the large crowds assembled for the annual parade. A special thank you to the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for sending their Avro Lancaster over the race to coincide perfectly with our run in, not having to break stride as it flew directly overhead.
The wonderful afternoon continued with Harriers male vets taking home biscuits & socks galore as Mark Walker won the V45 in 22:54 (6th overall), James Perry V40 in 23:32 (8th) and Matt Lynas V55 in 24:31 (15th). Kristy Readman went one better winning the ladies outright in 27:07. Andy Thorp was 3rd M60 in 32:04 and Mark Godden was 4th V65 in 41:16.
Congratulations to all who took part and represented the club with strong performances. Full results are available here.
