English Fell Championship 2024 – Race 1 – Duddon – Lake District
Our junior Macclesfield Harriers had a great Sunday fell race in the sunshine in the beautiful Duddon Valley, south Lake District. It was a very tough race with plenty of climbing, technical descents, river crossings and bogs on the courses for all age groups.
Congratulations to Jake Ireland finishing 1st in U17 boys – despite still only being 14 (ages are at year end in fell races with 2-year groupings) and Thomas Wood 2nd and George O’Donnell 4th in U15 boys. As a team of 3 (with Reuben Lawrance) the U15 boys also took the top of the team leaderboard for U15B (ahead of Lakeland-based clubs!). Well done also to Martha Wood (U13G), Toby Lawrance (U13B) and Daisy Whittington (U17G).
The English Junior Fell Championship is a series of 6 races throughout the year (best 4 to count in series) – with separate races for each junior age categories. One of the races is local – Shutlingsloe on 19th May 2024.
