High Legh 10k, 2024

Posted on 17/03/2024

This morning’s heavy rain meant that we all received a drenching as we lined up to start the race. Nonetheless, the residents of High Legh had lined the streets to cheer us on, and there was a great atmosphere as we completed a small loop around the village. Thankfully, the rain stopped as we left village and made our way into the Cheshire countryside; thus, allowing us to appreciate views extending towards Manchester and the Peak District as we made our way around the leafy lanes of the course.

The course itself proved to be challenging, with puddles and short, sharp rises peppered throughout. However, the toughest part was the grassy section in the 9th kilometre which soon came to resemble part of a cross-country course, and sapped the energy out of many competitors’ legs ahead of their final pushes.

Despite the tricky conditions there were some fabulous performances by Macclesfield Harriers today! The top three men were Rob Whitby (33.46), Mark Walker (35.06), and Graeme Eddie (41.39) while the top three ladies were Sue Stockdale (45.13), Sue Taylor (59.29), and Lindsey Russell (69.45). With such impressive times, it is no surprise that many of the team received individual prizes. Sue Stockdale (V50) and Mark Walker (V40) were the fastest runners in their age categories while Rob Whitby finished 3rd overall! Congratulations to all.
