SUMMARY:British Fell Relays
DESCRIPTION:13/10 Update:\n\nThere have been changes due to quite a few last-minute injuries. \n\n\nThe updated team list has been posted in the Fell Facebook group. If you can’t see this and would like to know more about the teams (especially if you’re in one!) send me an email or text.\n\n\nLast date for changes is Thursday 14th October 8pm\, i.e. tomorrow. If you’re not in the place you think you should be then please let me know asap!\nPlease review the information on the Helm Hill website. The three most important things are: \n(1) Arrive on time – L1 runners please be there for 10am; other runners be there for 11am. This means you should be arriving in the car park latest 9.15am L1 (10.15am L2-4) and so you will need to leave Macclesfield latest 7.15am (8.15am L2-4). \n(2) Wear a club vest (or tshirt) – Steve will have some available for purchase on the day if you don’t have one. Also bring safety pins to attach your race number! \n(3) Bring full FRA kit – that is: full body waterproofs with hood and taped seams\, hat (not a buff)\, gloves\, compass\, whistle\, emergency food.\n\nAny questions comment here or send me a message using your favourite medium – otherwise\, see you on Saturday! All being well I’ll be in our club tent\, unless you get there early\, in which case I’ll be struggling to put up our club tent.\n\n\nMark\n\n6/10 Update:\n\n\nBritish Fell Relays (16th Oct)\nThe final details and maps (for legs 1\, 3 and 4) are now available;\nDetails: https://www.helmhill.co.uk/…/british-fell…/overview\nCourses: https://www.helmhill.co.uk/…/british-fell…/courses\nPlease have a read of these. The ‘Details’ section contains loads of useful information\, including a timetable of the day and kit requirements. The points I thought were most important are:\n\n\nAt some point soon I will need your emergency contact details\, as soon as they put the required form on their website\n\n\nWe need to arrive in cars of 3 or 4. Whilst technically if you are running leg 4 you don’t need to arrive until about 1pm\, it would be great if everyone was there for the start at 11am. Leg 1 runners must be there by 10am\n\n\nThe car park is a 45 minute walk from the start/finish arena – therefore leg 1 runners\, you should be aiming to arrive at the car park by 9:15am at the latest. Please allow contingency time for traffic\, etc\n\n\nThe start of the relay (and so for leg 1 runners) is 11am\n\n\nThe minimum kit requirement is waterproof coat\, waterproof trousers\, hat\, gloves\, compass\, whistle and emergency food. If the conditions necessitate it you may want to carry more than this\, but you can’t carry less\n\n\nYou will need to wear a race number\, which you’ll pick up from me on the day. It will be either green (leg 1)\, yellow (2)\, red (3) or blue (4). You will need to bring your own safety pins\n\n\nEach runner or pair will have an SI card (‘dibber’). At each checkpoint\, there will be a box. Inset the dibber into the hole\, and it will beep. It will look something like this: https://www.sportident.sg/product/. There will either be a marshal or an orange and white orienteering flag next to it (ie it will be obvious)\n\n\nYou will enter a holding pen at some point before you expect the runners on the leg prior to yours to return. At this point your kit will be checked – once that has happened\, you can’t leave the holding pen. Fret not – there are toilets in the holding pen! Please be in the pen when your previous leg runner(s) arrives. If you aren’t\, they are likely to be cross\n\n\nThere will be a mini-mass start for each leg at scheduled times thoughout the day for teams whose previous leg runner hasn’t returned before that time – e.g. at 12:05\, all the remaining leg 2 runners will all start together. This doesn’t disqualify the team or anything\, it just keeps the day moving\n\n\nThere is a limited supply of drinking water\, so bring water with you. A meal is provided for all competitors (free)\, and there is additional food/cakes/beer available for purchase\n\n\n\nPlease pass this info on to anyone in your teams who you know isn’t likely to see this post. And let me know if you have any questions! Thanks – and stay out of trouble for the next week and a half 🙂\n\n\n————————–\n\n\nHelm Hill are organising this year’s Fell Relay championships.\nMore information on the link below\, but some key points are:\nTeam Categories – Entries will be accepted in the following categories. Each team will consist of 6 runners\nMen’s Open\, V40\, V50\nWomen’s Open V40\, V50\nMixed (3 Men + 3 Women)\nV60 (this is a new category and to encourage entries teams can comprise of any combination of men and women from the same club. A minimum of four V60 teams will be required for the competition to be valid and prizes awarded.\nAge categories relate to a runner’s age on the day of the race.\nImportant Rules to note (a full set of Rules and Regulations will be available prior to the event)\nThe Relay event is a senior competition for athletes aged 18 or over. However\, suitably experienced 16 and 17 year olds may run Legs 1 and 4\nAll runners must be registered/first claim members of the club they represent and must have suitable experience in category A fell races.\nThe use of GPS for navigation purposes\, the use of running poles and the linking of runners by bungee are not allowed.\nRace Course Details\nLeg 1 (Solo) – 5.9km with 430m of Climbing\nLeg 2 (Navigation leg for Pairs) – Approx 10km with 700m of climbing\nLeg 3 (Pairs) – 10.3km with 940m of climbing\nLeg 4 (Solo) – 5.2km with 370m of climbing\nLegs 1\, 3\, and 4 will be well flagged and maps will be provided in advance (online) and on the day. Leg 2 is the navigation leg and a map will be provided to teams a short distance after they leave the Event Field.\nThe terrain is mostly open fell with tussocks\, rocks and steep ascents and descents. All routes access the fell via private land so no recces are allowed. Routes will be closely flagged so there will be no benefit to those with local knowledge.\nThere will be no camping at the race venue. Tebay is close to the Lake District\, the Yorkshire Dales and the Eden valley so there are lots of options for those who wish to stay over.\nAll competitors will receive a free meal and there will be food and drink available to buy on site.

SUMMARY:2021 Trans-Pennine Relay
DESCRIPTION:Note: You MUST be competent to travel on foot across open fell in Winter conditions (buddying up will be possible where necessary).\n\nVarious points about the Relay : It’s not registered; there’s no entry fee; the prize list is limited to the first team back and consists of five pairs of Running Bear socks; clubs are completely responsible for their own transport and their own runners and it’s a matter of honour to go to the designated “checkpoints” where there are neither marshals\, flags or anything else.\n\nThe Relay consists of five legs\, so provided the owner doesn’t mind someone else driving it for one leg only it’s possible for the whole team to use only one car\, or\, if preferred\, you could use two cars and dedicated drivers.\nClubs can enter as many teams as they like BUT only one team selected as the best and the others equally spread ability-wise so as to make for some good intra as well as inter-club competition. Teams can be single-sex or mixed as preferred. Traditionally teams are named by their Clubs with pointlessly alliterative names based on the Club name and the theme for the current year\, which I’ll send out close to the race date; as an example in 2000 the theme was “Foodstuffs” and we had such gems as Pennine Passion Fruits; Trafford Toasties; Macclesfield Mangoes; Glossopdale Goulash; Totley Tzatziki and so on !\nRelay details are as follows; see attached maps for suggested routes :\nLeg One : 6.7 miles and 1060 feet of ascent. All of it is on road and all of it is uphill so the services of a road specialist are required and the leg finishes at the S-W corner of Redmires Reservoir.\nLeg Two : 7.6 miles and 1395 feet of ascent. From Redmires over Stanage\, down to the Derwent Valley\, up over Win Hill and down to the changeover on the railway bridge north of Hope.\nLeg Three : 5.9 miles and 1655 feet of ascent. Up onto Lose Hill and along the ridge to Hollins Cross\, round the west side of Mam Tor\, up and along Rushup Edge to the changeover where the track leaves the road at the west end.\nLeg Four : 7.3 miles and 1046 feet of ascent. Off down the bridleway\, into Roych Clough\, round South Head to cross the road at Peep ‘o Day then up and over the Chinley Churn ridge at Bigstone and down to the final changeover under the railway bridge just north of Furness Vale.\nLeg Five : 5.6 miles and 997 feet of ascent. An eyeballs-out blast up through Diglee Farm\, round Whaley Moor\, up again over Higher Moor\, over the ridge into Lyme Park and downhill to the Finish at the Boar’s Head pub.\nTotal length : 33 miles and 6220 feet of ascent.\nPost-event gathering : Boar’s Head pub\, Shrigley Road\, Higher Poynton (GR 943833).\nFor the benefit of support teams/team vehicles heading for the pub from the last changeover – head down the A6 through Disley and High Lane and turn off left at the traffic lights at 938856\, then turn immediately left again and down to the level crossing at 938844. Proceed along the very twisty little road to the junction at 940839\, turn left there and continue along until you come to the Boar’s Head\nLet’s hope for a most interesting and entertaining day; I’ll be back in touch nearer the day to ascertain the exact number of participating teams.

SUMMARY:2022 Rainow 5 - Summer Series
DESCRIPTION:The annual Rainow 5 is back for 2022. Wed 4th May 2022. \nBackground about the event can be found here… Rainow 5 \nInformation from RD Rachael (28/4) \nThank you for entering Rainow 5 Fell Race on Wednesday 4th May 2022. \nWe have a record number of entries — PLEASE can everyone CAR SHARE to the event. Parking marshals will be available to direct you to parking – we use the Rainow Primary School playground Post-code (school) SK10 5UB. Once full\, marshals will direct you to park on roads in the village – please park safety and courteously not blocking any driveways. Please do not park in the Robin Hood pub car park. Consider parking in Bollington and jog over as warm up! \nPlease collect your race number from registration in the Rainow Village Institute (opposite Robin Hood pub) from 6pm onwards. Bags can be left here (no valuables to be left). Bring your own safety pins please. All runners must display their race number. The race starts at 7:30pm very close to the Institute building. \nThe race is run under FRA regulations – as such be prepared to have FRA kit – a recommended minimum for this race is a waterproof top. The race route map and GPX file is available on the race website: https://macclesfield-harriers.co.uk/rainow5. It is your responsibility to know the route (its on footpaths) – there will be marshals on each junction. Note the race is 5 miles (not 5K!). After collecting your number\, if you do not start or do not complete the race it is essential you let a marshal or therace registration team know.  There will be a “sweeper” at the back of the runners. The route does include kissing gates – if you are fast make sure you start at the front – otherwise be prepared to make the most of a breather at the gates if necessary! \nAfter the race tea/coffees and cakes will be available to buy – please bring exact cash £2-£3 depending on your thirst and hunger and if possible bring your own mug to be filled(refreshment profits all fund-raising for Rainow Pre-School). \nLow-key prize giving (with thanks to Red Willow brewery for prizes) will take place at 8:45pm in the institute\, along with presentation of donations from your entry fees to Cheshire Wildlife Trust and Buxton Mountain Rescue. \nI look forward to seeing you all & enjoy the race. \nRachael Lawrance \nPS. Car share! \nPPS. If you now cant make it you can transfer your entries via SI Entries until 2nd May. \nFor route and previous results information CLICK HERE \nINFO ON FRA WEBSITE \nLINK TO ENTRY SYSTEM (£6 for FRA members\, £7 others\, EoD £10)
