North West Sportshall League

The second round of the North West Sportshall League took place on Sunday 29th October at Deeside College. The numbers of children that turned out for the club were a little disappointing despite the best efforts of their team managers. This was partly due to the clash with half term holidays but it would be nice to see better support for the third round at Stanney Leisure Centre on 26th November.
For those that did compete, there were some excellent individual and team performances. The highlights being three new club records (subject to ratification). They went to Aiden Westaway in the under 11 boys vertical jump with a leap of 44cms. The other records were both to girls in the standing triple jump; Clara Boothby (under 11) jumped 6.30m and Ceri Williams (under 15) jumped 7.10m. The previous triple jump records had both been held by Claire Roddis and had stood since 1994 and 1998 respectively.
The full team and individual results can be found on under "Fixtures & Results", then "County Results".
Finally, a plea to any boys or girls who are in the under 11, 13 or 15 age group. If you have not competed yet in an Indoor Sportshall competition why not consider giving it a go. Indoor training can be arranged if you have not tried out the events before. Give me a call on 01625 616483 or e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. UK School Games

Two U17 athletes, Robert Black and Steph Kleynhans from Macclesfield Harriers were representing the North West at the UK School Games this weekend 9th/10th September.  Steph gained a silver medal for her second place performance in Triple Jump with a new PB of 11.29m. Robert won a bronze medal as a member of the 4 x 100m team.

English Schools Champion

Jack Andrew had a fantastic day in Derby on Saturday at the English Schools combined events championships taking the Gold Medal position in front of the top competitors in the country. Jack's overall score for the 5 events was 2919 points, almost 100 points clear of the second placed competitor.  In the first event, the 80 hurdles, Jack's 11.27secs placed him firmly in the lead. Although recording a PB in the shot (10.69cm) Jack dropped to third, but climbed back up to first with an excellent Long Jump of 6.06m.  Following the high jump (1.59m) Jack was just one point behind the leader and 10 in front of third. A storming 800m final event in 2:13.42 saw Jack finish a clear winner of the title, which gains him selection for English representative honours in an indoor international event in Glasgow in December.

Macclesfield Harriers were well represented in Derby with 4 other athletes also having successful competitions across the age groups. Steph Kleyhnans finished 14th  (80m Hurdles 12.3, High Jump 1.57, Shot 8.40m, 200m 27.3, Long Jump 5.04, javelin 22.67m, 800m 2:35.  Total Score 4098); Adam Edgar 16th (Long Jump 5.95m, discus 21.79, Javelin 38.80, 400m 54.4, Hurdles 14.56, High jump 1.74m, shot 11.13m, 1500m 5:13.31.  Total Score 4281); Ceri Williams 34th (75m Hurdles 13.03, LJ 4.48, HJ 1.35, shot 6.57, 800 2.39.7) and Louise Burton 32nd (100m Hurdles 18.86, High Jump 1.39, shot 9.70, 200m 31.39s, Long Jump 4.25, Javelin 30.20m, 800m 3:07.07.  Total Score – 2953).

Cheshire League

We had 7 U11 girls compete in round 4 of the Cheshire league at Ellesmere Port on Sunday 3rd September. Despite blustery and showery conditions the girls gave some good performances.  Laura Venables, Grace Hatton, Clara Boothby and Bethany Burrows competed in the 75m sprint with Laura equalling the U11 club record for the distance. Bethany, Marissa Williams, Mallory Furness and Zoe Potts ran the 600m with some good times recorded and high placings by the girls.

Zoe and Marissa both won their A and B strings in the turbo javelin competition.  Clara and Grace both long jumped to 3.46m to reach a 3-way tie with another club's athlete.  On count back Clara finished 2nd in the A string and Grace 1st in the B string.

The 4 x 100m relay team of Clara, Bethany, Laura and Grace won their race convincingly.

All the girls had a successful and enjoyable day. Thanks to the parents for their support. Good luck to all U11s competing on Sunday 10th in the individual competition at Macclesfield Athletics Track.
