Macclesfield Harriers & Athletic Club

UK Sportshall Athletics Final

Nine Macclesfield Harriers joined young athletes from all over the UK to contest the prestigious UK Sportshall Athletics Final on Sunday at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. The Harriers had gained places on the Cheshire team, representing the North West in the event, a showcase for future talent in the UK, and were thrilled that former sportshall and current Commonwealth champion Kelly Sotherton was on hand to present the awards.

NW Indoor Sportshall Final

Macclesfield Harriers will have to clear a space in their trophy cabinet after a clean sweep by the under 13 and under 15 boys teams in the North West Indoor Sportshall final. Against clubs from across the North West, the boys proved that they could pull out top performances when it really mattered.

Team Manager: Simon Price

Team members: James Carey, Stuart Price, Jack Andrew, Ed Williams, Matt Hamilton, Josh Edgar, Calum Murray, Lloyd Hilton, Alex Ranshaw, Joe Roddis, Toby Jennings, Joe Hills, Matt Wallis, Matt Wheelton, Stephen Wearne.

Also, competing in the North West final were boys and girls teams in the under 11 age group.  It was a great achievement for these teams to have reached the final and they acquitted themselves well, finishing in 4th and 5th place respectively. In the under 15 girls competition, Rowena Evans had been invited to take part in the shot put. She fully justified her selection by putting 8.48m to take the silver medal.

A week long introduction to athletics for 9-15 year olds will be held at the athletics track from Monday 24 - Friday 28 July, 10.00-15.00.  Application forms will be available in mid May from Macclesfield Leisure Centre or Macclesfield Borough Council, Leisure Services Department, Town Hall, Macclesfield.
