Macclesfield Harriers & Athletic Club

Trafford Grand Prix, 25th July

A message from Bill Yale, Louisa Whittingham's grandad (and a very talented athlete in his day too !) to whom many thanks....

'Once again, Macclesfield's outstanding junior athlete, Sian Heslop produced a superb run in tonight's Trafford Grand Prix. In the Under 15 1500 metres she finished in 4mins 31.79secs, a time that has now taken her to the top of the British Athletics Power of Ten Under 15 rankings!
Two other Macclesfield runners also performed well at this meeting, Matthew Brown completing the 800 metres in 2m 06.15 secs and Louisa Whittingham gaining another PB in the 3000 metres (but not quite able to keep up with her dad!).'

Interestingly, Sian's time would have been a world record had she run it in 1960.

Final T&F Coaching session

Today was the 3rd and final Track and Field Coaching Clinic hosted by the club and supported by the MADF charity.  With the initial weather forecast not looking so promising, it was great to see so many enthusiastic athletes turn out for the session. We had 30 in total from the U13 age group all the way through to athletes who compete in Masters Championships (you are never too old to learn new skills!!).

These clinics have been a success once again, with so many coaches volunteering their time freely it is possible to provide individually tailored sessions.  The 12 coaches today delivered Hurdles, Sprints, Pole Vault, Hammer and both Long and Triple Jump sessions, so there really has been something for everyone, whether that be for the first time or to improve skill levels in existing events. We have always had plenty of positive feedback from those who have taken part and equally we as coaches have found a great sense of satisfaction from sharing our knowledge.

Thanks to all those who have attended the clinics this season we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
