Macclesfield Harriers & Athletic Club

Could you be a Gamechanger

Macclesfield Harriers are looking for 10 enthusiastic students to train for volunteering opportunities including officiating, event marshalling and more.  The program will start in September 2017 and run through until February 2018.

Throws Event - great success

We had a great turnout for Macclesfield Harriers first 'Have a Go at Throwing' event on Wednesday night (30th August).  28 participants +  6 coaches +  sunshine  = a lot of fun. Many were trying throwing for the first time and had a go at javelin, discus, shot put and hammer over the course of the evening under our coaches expert guidance.  Many thanks to all the coaches and to England Athletics for their support.  Looking forward to the next one?

Many thanks

Barbara Murray

Have a Go - Throws event (30th August)

Have you got the POWER?

Macclesfield Harriers & AC is holding an open “Have A Go” throw event on Wednesday 30th August 6-8pm at Macclesfield Athletics Track.

This FREE two-hour event will give men and women a chance to try any of the four throwing events: shot put, discus, javelin and hammer. The evening will have a fun and social feel to it, as there will also be live music and refreshments available.

Trafford Grand Prix, 25th July

A message from Bill Yale, Louisa Whittingham's grandad (and a very talented athlete in his day too !) to whom many thanks....

'Once again, Macclesfield's outstanding junior athlete, Sian Heslop produced a superb run in tonight's Trafford Grand Prix. In the Under 15 1500 metres she finished in 4mins 31.79secs, a time that has now taken her to the top of the British Athletics Power of Ten Under 15 rankings!
Two other Macclesfield runners also performed well at this meeting, Matthew Brown completing the 800 metres in 2m 06.15 secs and Louisa Whittingham gaining another PB in the 3000 metres (but not quite able to keep up with her dad!).'

Interestingly, Sian's time would have been a world record had she run it in 1960.

English Schools Championships 2017

Congratulations to all our athletes that competed for Cheshire n the English Schools Championships on Friday and Saturday (Morgan Frith, Sian Heslop, Sarah Stockman and Jacob Thompson).

Sian came second in the Junior Girls 1500m (4:32:17) and Jacob came third in the Junior Boys High Jump (1.84m), with Morgan narrowly missing out on a medal in the Junior Boys Long Jump (4th place).
