Chester Spring 5

It was good to see a strong turnout of Macclesfield Harriers and AC athletes at this popular road race, which runs over country lanes on the outskirts of Chester.

Raph Murray led the harriers’ home in a time of 29:16, which saw him, finish as 2nd Male Vet 50. Raph was followed by Steve Lomas, Andrew Gray, Martin Platt, Chris Holden, Chris Harbron and Roger Brereton who ran in his first race of the season after suffering from various injuries.

Sarah Harris finished as 2nd Lady in a good time of 30:02. Alison Hartopp finished as 1st Lady Vet 40 and Sally Ann Pattison finished as 3rd Lady Vet 40. Barbara Murray finished as 4th Lady Vet 45 and Alison Horsfield finished as 4th Lady Vet 35. The ladies also took the team prize.

The road champs table has been updated.

London Marathon 2006

*updated* Sophie Hine's result has been added in, and some reports have been added to the full page (click on "read more").

It looks like 3 club records have been broken:  the Men's V65 marathon record previously attained by Harry Newton in June 2004 was 3:58:17 but Harry's provisional result for yesterdays race was 3:54:35.  It also looks like Cynthia Chapman has broken her own LV55 Marathon record of 4:10:05 set in April 2004 by finishing in 4:03:36 yesterday. Dave Tucker has also broken the V55 record previously held by Colin Ardron. Dave's time was 3:16:05 compared to Colin's 3:28.

If anyone has any personal stories to add, please email me via the contacts page, or why not post an item in the forum. I've sent of a press report to the Macc Express with just the results, but it would be far nicer if there were some stories behind the event.

Road Running Training

There are two regular groups who run from the overflow car park at Macclesfield Leisure Centre at 6:30pm on Mondays and Thursdays. The groups known as B’s and C’s tend to run for over an hour, with the B’s running at a slightly faster pace and stopping less often. Throughout the summer the B’s meet at Teggs Nose car park on Monday evenings for a more challenging hilly run. While the evenings are light, both groups follow routes that are a mix of terrain varying from roads, fields, trails and hills.

In winter the routes are restricted mostly to roads and may involve reps. Both groups are friendly and relaxed and will look after you whether you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran – no one gets left behind!

If you are thinking of joining Macclesfield Harriers or would like to come along and see if it’s for you, then please ask for Jon or David who will be happy to discuss what you want to get from the training etc.
