Forest 5 - filling up!

The 2017 Forest 5 (Wednesday 19th July) is filling up fast. As club members may be aware there is an inter-club competition at this event with a least 4 clubs taking part.

If anybody from the road running groups are interested in entering for some local club friendly rivalry, please enter as soon as possible ( as the race will soon be promoted in the Macclesfield Express as part of a series of articles profiling different elements of the Club.

Also, a gentle reminder that Club Vests must be worn when racing (only runners in club vests count in the team event).

Intermediate Fell Group - Run 1

The club fell section are encouraging members to try out fell running with a series of taster sessions and shorter Wednesday night runs (Intermediate Fell Group). The first of the intermediate runs was in Macclesfield Forest where 24 people came along to 'have a go'. It was a super evening - thanks to the leaders that helped everybody. The second IFG session is on Wednesday 12th April - details are on the website and in the fell section FB group.

Fell running taster session - 30th April 2017

This next session will run form 0945 to 1145, starting at Macclesfield Forest Visitor Centre, Trentabank.

In this session we will be re-capping kit selection, safety considerations, uphill and downhill running techniques, and applying those to different types of terrain covered on the first session.

The minimum age is 12 and all juniors under 18 must have a signed consent form given to Shaun Wilde (Session Leader) by the parent or guardian. The parent or guardian can optionally attend the session.

The kit requirement is:

  • Training shoes (ideally studded fell shoes)
  • Running socks
  • Running tights or shorts
  • Long sleeve wicking base layer
  • Mid layer or additional t-shirt (optional)
  • Breathable waterproof jacket (to be used or carried dependent on the weather)
  • Running gloves and hat/buff (to be used or carried dependent on the weather)
  • Small running bag to carry jacket, gloves and hat/buff (weather dependent)
  • A change of clothes, a towel and filled water bottle (to be kept at the start location)
  • It is also recommended to have an energy based snack for after the session

Anyone who wishes (parent and guardians email on behalf of their juniors) to attend please email Shaun Wilde at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so that we can manage the numbers and have the appropriate numbers of helpers on the day.

Rainow 5 Fell Race - call for helpers!

From organiser Rachael Lawrance... Rainow 5 Fell Race is on Wed 3rd May from Rainow Insititute.

More details here .

I would encourage everyone to run who wants to... but also ask if anyone who is not running if they could marshall and help make this a successful local race please. All funds from the race are donated to local Rainow charities and mountain rescue. Last year i think over 40 harriers ran and also over 15 helped out so thank you!

Wednesday night summer fell race series 2017

The first race is nearly upon us. Herod Farm starts with a tough longish climb down and around a steeper shorter climb (save some for this) and a blast downhill back to the start point. It’s just 3 mile so 14 to 17 year old's can enter but need parents/guardians to sign consent on the entry form on the night.
