2016 FELL CHAMPS SUMMARY

From Barry 'Thanks everyone for participating in this year's Fell Champs !

Race selection for the champs was with a view to maximise the no of individuals that achieved the required qualifying races i.e. 6 including at least 1 long.

To facilitate this I selected 21 “local” races including 3 popular Wednesday evening races (Rainow 5, Boars Head and the Forest 5) and allowed additional races by request if 5 or more completed; there were two of these.

Over 20 Harriers managed to do six or more races including a long. In all 126 turned out at one or more races, averaging 18 per race, the number running ranging from 4 to 44. The 4 was the Kinder Trog (long) which coincided with the Whaley Waltz and Sophie's Langley Fete race (and a Bob Graham round attempt); so in actual fact there were 26 harriers racing that w/e as well as others supporting the BG attempt or marshalling on the Langley Fete race. Great to see so many participating some for the first time on the Fells.

Overall winner for the men was Pete Neild on 5413 pts with Dan Croft not far behind on 5315 and David Lawrance on 4820. Angela Jordan (4711pts) was first lady followed by Alannah Birtwistle (4558) and almost tied for 3rd Sophie Kirk (4499) and Andrea Frost 4496.

Graham Brown was the most improved runner being ca 11% better compared to 2015 and takes the Ken Hall “Handicap” trophy. Graham (and Andrea / Sophie !) we're looking forward to you giving us a date next summer for a longish jaunt round the Lakes.

The club “Enthusiast” was tied with Alannah and yours truly both completing 13 races with Fred Wardle just behind on 12.

The final table after the club handicap is attached. Cheers Barry'
