Macclesfield Harriers & Athletic Club

2005-6 Cross Country Report

By the time you read this at the AGM another long, tough but enjoyable cross country season will be over with a number of intrepid runners having last week brought the season to its conclusion with the long trip to London to run the most famous cross country course of all at Parliament Hill Fields.

It has once again been a fantastic winter of competition for the club, possibly the best for many years, with much success by individuals and teams alike, as the roll of honour at the end of this report illustrates. But as with all team sports (and cross country is very much a team discipline) much of the success of the club in cross country is as always down to the team managers getting out athletes in numbers, so a big thank you to team organisers, drivers and supporters, particularly those for the younger age groups.

Inter County Cross Country

5 of the Macclesfield Harriers Under 15 girls represented Cheshire Schools in an inter county cross country match at Melton Mowbray.  In the inter girls race Hannah Hills finished 13th and Katie Heron 15th while in the junior girls race Rebecca Craigie had another convincing win, followed by Sarah Gales in 7th position and Jo Mott with another good solid run.

Macclesfield Win Cheshire Cross Country League

Macclesfield Harriers came away from the final round of the Cheshire League at Stockport laden with medals. There were 4 individual title winners, Danielle Wallis won all 3 rounds of the competition to win the under 11 girls title convincingly, this feat was emulated by Lloyd Hilton for the under 13 boys and Rebecca Craigie for the under 15 girls. Ann Farmer won the senior ladies title with two wins and a fourth place.

North of England Cross Country Championships

A large contingent of Macclesfield Harriers made the trip to Witton Park Blackburn for the North of England Cross Country Championships.  Pride of place goes to Rebecca Craigie who continued with her excellent season with a superb run to finish second in the U15G race, second home for Macclesfield in 78th place was Katie Heron followed by Hannah Hills in 98th position and Jo Mott 125th.  Lloyd Hilton had another good race for the U13B finishing 6th with Callum Murray 17th and Simon Wood 93rd.  Beth Chasty led the U13G home in 63rd followed by Lucy Bunce 76th, Elin Pyke 93rd, T Milburn 94th, C Ashworth 167th to finish as 10th team.
