Cross Country - Manchester League

Update: Round 1 Manchester League have gone on the website:
The Under 17 Men started their Cross Country season with low numbers on Saturday at Heaton Park. Illness and other commitments reduced the team to just three runners who complied with the manager's pre-race team talk by all finishing in the top ten on the day. Edward Williams was in a good position at the half way point just behind the Warrington athletes but was unable to challenge them in the finishing stages but finished in 3rd place with the leaders still in sight which shows promise for the rest of the season. The next Macclesfield athlete to cross the line was the reliable Edmund Burgon in 9th place closely followed by James Lobo in tenth place. This excellent performance gives the team second place in the Manchester League to
compliment their first place in the North Staffs League. the next round will be critical to build on this position as only one other club, Stockport, managed to field a full team on the day.

Rebecca Craigie had a fantastic race and finished 4th, and will now represent England in a schools international competition in 2 weeks time.
Sarah Gales battled through with an ankle injury and still managed to finish a very credible 224th.

2005-6 Cross Country Report

By the time you read this at the AGM another long, tough but enjoyable cross country season will be over with a number of intrepid runners having last week brought the season to its conclusion with the long trip to London to run the most famous cross country course of all at Parliament Hill Fields.

It has once again been a fantastic winter of competition for the club, possibly the best for many years, with much success by individuals and teams alike, as the roll of honour at the end of this report illustrates. But as with all team sports (and cross country is very much a team discipline) much of the success of the club in cross country is as always down to the team managers getting out athletes in numbers, so a big thank you to team organisers, drivers and supporters, particularly those for the younger age groups.
